American Airlines has filed a new transcontinental route from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to Orange County’s John Wayne Airport.
The daily service will begin on July 5 and run through August 14. The carrier will use a 196-seat Airbus A321neo for the 2,099-mile flight, which features 20 first-class recliners, 47 Main Cabin Extra seats, and 129 economy seats.
Booking.comAmerican may decide to extend the schedule if the service performs well. American added a new transcontinental route to New York and service from Austin to Orange County during the pandemic.
Orange County is a popular destination among locals and visitors, and American likely wants to tap into the airport’s catchment area, one of the nation’s most affluent. The airport uses slots to limit the amount of air traffic in the area, and each year, airport authorities release an allocation of daily flights. American won 19 ADDs for 2023.
