American Airlines will resume flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Auckland International Airport (AKL) on December 21st, according to schedule filings by Ishrion Aviation on Twitter.

The airline will deploy a Boeing 787 for a daily service for the southern hemisphere summer season before dropping to a thrice-weekly service from February. American Airlines last served Auckland from Los Angeles before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The US carrier also operates a seasonal service from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Auckland. Multiple US carriers have started or plan to operate flights between California and New Zealand, with Delta Air Lines launching seasonal flights to Auckland in October and United Airlines adding Los Angeles to Auckland in October, alongside its new San Francisco to Christchurch route. With this increased competition, the prices of airfares for international airlines (both direct and indirect) to Auckland are anticipated to drop, benefiting passengers.
